Helvetica Documentary

watching Helvetica, i learned that helvetica is the name of the most commonly used type you see  in your everyday life. people use that font for advertisements, store names, and even signs in store windows. helvetica is a universal font because it is easy to read, very common and basic, and simple but bold when used the right way. plus helvetica looks very good across a busy backgroud because it is so plain. some reasons for not liking helvetica is that it can come across very boring and unoriginal. it is a very overused font that people can get tired of because its not very unique.
type can be used very creatively. you can make an advertisement with no pictures, but it can still look really cool because the type is different sizes, colors, and directions. another cool way i saw type used in the film was on a human body and it looked like the words were carved into the skin an had left scratches.
im not really sure how i am going to use type differnetly..even though they showed many ways to use type in the movie, i dont know how to do all of it. but i will try to come up with cool new ideas anyways.

self portrait and drawing

i thought this was a good and fun exercise. having to draw and color in our self portraits was definitely the most challenging part, because it was a lot of layers to have to deal with. i learned how to use the polygonal lasso tool and how changing the opacity of part of the picture can really change it. this exercise was more difficult than it looks but i did enjoy it
